In a series of deeply personal webinars, I discuss my personal formative journey. In this first presentation, I describe the enormous influence that my research with the Temiar people in the jungles of Malaysia has had on my practice in Play and Dramatherapy, and Neuro-Dramatic-Play.
As Dramatherapy was growing and expanding, I decide to go to university to study Social Anthropology. I was trying to find a way to understand ritual and performance in relation to Dramatherapy, and was seeking answers that psychology and psycho-analysis could not satisfy. The course was simply amazing and led me to recommend that therapists should study anthropology and do an overseas placement. My vision was not shared by everyone, but awareness was growing, and certainly influenced a greater understanding of diversity. I decided it was time to get right away from Dramatherapy and go the rainforest. And what did I find? Join me for the webinar to find out!
This particular webinar forms the ideal introduction to the Temiar and my relationship with them. As you know, I have just returned from the Malaysian jungle where I spent time with the Temiar again, many of whom are now close friends. I will be telling you more about that trip in my next newsletters and so do think about attending this seminar to gain a further understanding of these extraordinary people.
